Vietnam signs a new bilateral agreement on digital transformation and artificial intelligence with the United States

In June 2024, Vietnam and the United States signed an important bilateral agreement to promote cooperation in digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and cybersecurity. This strategic step aims to advance joint technological initiatives amid growing globalization and intensifying technological competition.

The agreement outlines areas of cooperation including the development of technological human resources, the establishment of a bilateral AI research center, and data sharing in priority sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, smart cities, and supply chains. Both countries also committed to adhering to ethical principles in AI development and to international standards on personal data protection.

With this agreement, Vietnam is expected to become a regional hub for digital technology in Southeast Asia, attracting high-tech investments from the United States and other countries. Major U.S. technology corporations such as Google, Microsoft, and NVIDIA have expressed their intention to expand operations in Vietnam through training programs, research projects, and the practical implementation of AI solutions.
